The Way We Work

All the midwives within our practice have small caseloads of around four birthing women per month. This means that we have plenty of time for your appointments, which allows time, not only to build a trusting relationship, but also to share and discuss a wide range of information. For specific clinic times and locations, please refer to the individual midwife’s profile.

Rata midwives work together closely, covering one another for weekends and other negotiated time off call. You will have the opportunity to meet your back up midwife/midwives before you have your baby so you are familiar with who is providing your care. Please keep an eye on our social media for our ‘meet the midwife’ sessions which are highly encouraged. We usually see pregnant people every 4-6 weeks until 28 weeks, then 2-3 weekly until 36 weeks, then weekly until you go into labour.  Once baby is born, we see you both at home regularly until baby is 4-6 weeks old. We encourage clinical communication to happen at appointments, it’s much easier this way. We are however on call for any urgent cares required (your midwife will outline urgent reasons to get in touch!). The unpredictable nature of midwifery means that we may not always be on time and appointments may occasionally need to be rescheduled. Be assured that when you have an urgent need we will be there for you and your baby. We are on call 24/7 and appreciate your understanding.
