Place of Birth

We know that for the vast majority of birthing people, normal birth is the safest and most rewarding experience. Research shows that normal birth is best achieved for healthy, low risk pregnant people by birthing at home or in a primary birthing unit, such as Oromairaki (Rolleston), Kurawaka: Waipapa (Christchurch City) or Rangiora.

The pressure put on birthers by the motto ‘Just in case’ all to often becomes ‘Make it the Case’ due to the impact on birth hormones and the cascade of interventions that occur when birthers, who don’t need to, birth in a Tertiary Hospital.

We are all experienced in all settings, so if you do need the interventions the tertiary hospital provide, we will be right there with you, advocating for you and providing you with quality midwifery care and support.
